HALMINEN HOMES – DURHAM IS THE PLACE TO BE

Categories: Uncategorized | Posted: March 13, 2014

The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) housing market has certainly experienced significant change over the past several years.  Provincial intensification policies have led to a greater focus on mid and high rise condominium apartment activity while a diminishing land supply has placed price pressures on the single detached, semi-detached and townhome markets.  As a result of these market factors we have seen a shift in housing direction, essentially towards a greater emphasis on higher density housing, namely condominium apartments.  In 2013, fifty-seven percent (57%) of all new home sales in the GTA were condominium apartments…in almost every market area they provided an affordable housing option.  However, a closer look at the market statistics shows that the one region within the Greater Toronto Area that has “bucked the trend’ towards higher density housing is Durham Region.  Durham Region continues to offer a full range of affordable housing choices, ranging from condominium apartments to single detached homes….if you’re looking for an affordability in a low density housing form Durham Region is the place to be…..

“Katrina Metzner Yarrow, Architectural Technologist at Halminen Homes said “Being one of the first home builders in the Durham Region to implement Energy Star, Halminen prides itself in being a “green” builder. For that reason we are looking forward to working with the Municipality of Clarington and being one of only three builders to volunteer to be a part of the PRIORITY GREEN Clarington Green Demonstration Project.”

HALMINEN HOMES – PRIORITY GREEN

Categories: Uncategorized | Posted: February 25, 2014

Halminen Homes is proud to be one of the three local builders to partner with The Municipality of Clarington in their new Priority Green initiative.

“The demonstration project will see a long list of practices for water conservation, energy efficiency, improved indoor air quality, reduced rain water runoff, and efficient resource management installed in six homes to be built this year within the Courtice North subdivision in Courtice. With agreement from the purchasers of the demonstration homes, the Municipality will conduct a monitoring program to evaluate the performance of the homes under “real life” conditions. The data will be used to inform residents and the building sector about the potential environmental, economic and social benefits of the building techniques and equipment that were used”
